Rainy Day June 10, 2014
Cool and rainy, doing the applique on my Tree of Life wallhanging. I prepared the shapes by ironing the seam allowances onto the sticky side of freezer paper, and stitching by machine with zigzag and invisible thread.

Retreat!!
Had a great time last week at the LLQA retreat at Pilgrim Park near Princeton, Il - a nice facility in a wooded valley near the Illinois River. We sewed, shopped at Quilter's Garden Quilt Shop in town, ate, napped, chatted; but mostly sewed. I made good progress on three of my UFO's.
This isn't a good photo, but its the layout for the top center of my Edyta Sitar Spool quilt. I did get it sewn together. Now to do the border applique. Our local guild did a swap for the "thread" parts of the spools. For three months we each signed up for a different color and made enough of that color for the others on the list. I was fired up to do the applique as soon as I got home, but first I need to get my churn dash and 30's bowtie blocks done for the LLQA swaps for the June 14 meeting. Hope to finish those by tomorrow.

A Finish in February
I finished "Hexagon Flowers Doll Quilt" from one of Kathleen Tracey's books. I joined her Yahoo group and have now done two of her quilts for the "small quilt a month" project. This is English paper pieced flowers appliqued onto a background square; and I hand quilted it.

Weather is very wintry cold and snowy; I am getting things done!
Baby quilt for Henry is done. (I did go to the shop and after seeing how much a new bobbin case would cost - over $100!), I took the screw off my bobbin case and was able to snap the spring back into the slot. Yay!! Works just fine.

Baby Quilt Progress and Delay
On Wednesday I started machine quilting Henry's quilt, in the ditch with the walking foot, and couldn't get the stitch to look right. I rethreaded the machine, changed needle, moved upper tension-all to no avail. Alas! Found that the bobbin case is broken, because there is no lower tension at all. I tried tightening the bobbin case screw, but that didn't do anything. The hook must have bent or loosened when I dropped the case the other day. Will have to take a trip to Rochester to have the shop repair or replace. It's so darn cold I haven't been leaving the house-but this afternoon it's supposed to get up to the upper 20's so I may go.

In other news, I have made a few more bowtie blocks. For a good size quilt I figured I need 289, and I have 71 now.
I'm swap chairperson for evening guild meeting, and have started the "thread" units for Edyta Sitar's Spool Quilt. Hope the swap goes well, and participants follow the guidelines!

Still pretty cold out, so stayed in - but have to go to book club tonight.
I am making progress on my UFO reduction plan, and am working on current projects as well!
The binding is machine sewn onto Hexie Doll Quilt, and is being hand stitched to the back.
Finished the last two Dixie Diary blocks - now need to get fabric for setting. I am almost finished with the stars for EPP project.

New Year 2014
I've decided that this will be the year that my UFOs will finished! A list of goals for each month has been made; and the first item on the January list is done. It was to finish the "fivies" units for the Classic Strippy quilt from Bonnie Hunter's book Leaders and Enders. I have made 280 of them!
Now I'm working on item #2- finishing Dixie Diary-the 2013 BOM from Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilts blog.
