April and May 2015

Upon returning to my long neglected blog, I found some post drafts. I'm publishing them today (September 24, 2015).
This post documents some of my quilty happenings from April and May 2015.

Keeping up with "Stars in a Time Warp" block of the week project from Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilts blog. These are paisleys.

My Tree of Life won a first place ribbon at guild show in April.

Scrappy Irish Chain second

Trick or Treat second

Scrap Basket Blossom third

Paducah trip Ricky Tims concert. Went with two friends, had a great time. Next year going for four days!

Main Street Quilt Company in Shelbyville was featured in Quilt Sampler magazine.
I drove down for their celebratory open house and bought this.

Some of Kathleen's larger quilts displayed at class.

Kathleen Tracy of Country Lane Quilts came to our guild to teach a class on making doll/small quilts. She's the author of several books including "American Doll Quilts". I'll post a photo of the finished project later.

I was installed as DQG evening chair (in absentia). Was birdwatching in Ohio with hubby and had to miss the installation dinner. This rose was given to me when I got back.

2015 Goals

I've made a list of some long time UFO block of week or block of month projects, and plan to work on them this year.

I've started by finishing block # 4 Kansas Sunflower from Barbara Brackman's Grandmother's Choice BOW from 2012-2013. It's hand pieced-got frustrated and put it away until this week! Finished is better than perfect!

Got the Scrappy Trips top done, now to baste and quilt. Decided no borders.
Finished Trick or Treat quilting and binding at long last! Plan to make label and hanging sleeve this week.

Rainy Day June 10, 2014

Cool and rainy, doing the applique on my Tree of Life wallhanging. I prepared the shapes by ironing the seam allowances onto the sticky side of freezer paper, and stitching by  machine with zigzag and invisible thread.

Retreat!!

Had a great time last week at the LLQA retreat at Pilgrim Park near Princeton, Il - a nice facility in a wooded valley near the Illinois River. We sewed, shopped at Quilter's Garden Quilt Shop in town, ate, napped, chatted; but mostly sewed. I made good progress on three of my UFO's.

This isn't a good photo, but its the layout for the top center of my Edyta Sitar Spool quilt. I did get it sewn together. Now to do the border applique. Our local guild did a swap for the "thread" parts of the spools. For three months we each signed up for a different color and made enough of that color for the others on the list. I was fired up to do the applique as soon as I got home, but first I need to get my churn dash and 30's bowtie blocks done for the LLQA swaps for the June 14 meeting. Hope to finish those by tomorrow.
